   ASP begins disbursing enhanced retirement pensions

The Agency for Social Protection (ASP) has begun implementing the increase in retirement benefits under the social security fund, as announced by President Patrick Herminie in his maiden address to the National Assembly. The first payroll reflecting the enhanced pensions was disbursed two days ago.

Secretary of State Patrick Payet confirmed the development yesterday morning at Liberty House, alongside ASP chief executive Roma Edmond.

Mr Payet reported that 11,349 pensioners and beneficiaries have already received the 800-rupee increase. He added that ASP has so far received around 1,100 new applications, of which 400 have been processed and 100 are currently being handled by the Treasury Department. “We expect that before the end of January, the remaining applications will be disbursed,” he stated.
