After almost a year and a half wait, the grand prize winner of the 2018 National Day lottery, James Joseph, was yesterday finally presented with his house which is located at Perseverance.

It was Designated Minister Macsuzy Mondon, in her capacity as the chairperson of the National Day committee, who presented the necessary documents and house keys to Mr Joseph during a brief ceremony.

The two-storey, three bedroom house, which is around 120m², has been constructed by the Ministry of Habitat, Infrastructure and Land Transport at a sum of R1.1 million.

Mr Joseph, who declined to be interviewed, is a father of three who presently lives in La Gogue, Anse Etoile with his mother.

He is hoping to officially move into his house in a month’s time.

According to the principal secretary for infrastructure, Yves Choppy, the National Day lottery house was built on one of the 35 land-bank plots that are being made available on Perseverance.

“The reason why we had such a delay in delivering the house is because the quotations we initially received were too expensive, hence we had to re-tender for the contruction of the house,” he explained.

Construction on the house started in March this year.
