Human Rights Commission calls for stronger support to safeguard human dignity

The Seychelles Human Rights Commission is leading a multi-institutional effort to strengthen the protection of fundamental rights and ensure that public services are delivered with full respect for human dignity.

This was shared during a workshop to commemorate the International Human Rights Day yesterday at Savoy Resort and Spa.

Speaking at the event, Nichole Tirant-Ghérardi, deputy chair of the Commission, stressed that “human dignity is a fundamental right, and everything we do must guarantee that it is fully protected”.

The initiative focuses on sensitising institutions about their legal obligations. “We want public bodies to become more conscious of their duties. They exist to serve citizens,” she said. A second objective is to remind the state of its responsibility to ensure that all services uphold citizens’ fundamental rights.
