Fair Trading Commission

Celebrating World Competition Day

“The Fair Trading Commission joins the global community in celebrating World Competition Day, observed annually on December 5, and championed by Customer Unity & Trust Society (CUTS) International.

“This day serves as an important reminder of the role competition plays in supporting fair, efficient, and dynamic markets. Seychelles proudly participates in this global initiative, reaffirming the commitment of the Fair Trading Commission to promote competitive markets and protecting consumer welfare.

“This year’s theme, ‘Artificial Intelligence, Consumer and Competition Policy’,underscores the rapid technological developments reshaping markets worldwide.

“While Artificial Intelligence (AI) brings major benefits, such as improved efficiency, innovation, and enhanced consumer experiences, it also presents new challenges for regulators, including risks of algorithmic collusion on digital platforms, digital market dominance, and barriers to entry for smaller firms.

“The FTC recognises these emerging dynamics and remains committed to strengthening its oversight in digital markets. The Commission continues to enhance its analytical capacity, modernise enforcement tools, and refine its policy frameworks to ensure fairness, transparency, and accountability in the digital era. Consumers are ultimately the beneficiaries of strong enforcement against anti-competitive practices, as a more competitive market results in better products, improved quality, and enhanced services.

“As we mark this occasion, the Commission also reflects on the progress made during 2025, both in terms of strengthening competition enforcement and enhancing collaboration with government entities, regulators, enterprises, and consumers. Over the past year, the FTC has made meaningful contributions across various sectors and has provided valuable input into government policies to support fair market conduct and economic efficiency.

“The FTC extends its appreciation to all stakeholders whose continued collaboration and partnerships over the years have played a vital role in improving competition enforcement and advancing market fairness across various sectors.

“Looking ahead, the Commission will continue to prioritise stakeholder engagement, capacity building, and awareness of the Fair Trading Act, ensuring that all market participants fully understand their rights and obligations under the law.

“The Fair Trading Commission wishes all stakeholders, partners, consumers, and businesses a Happy World Competition Day. May this day continue to inspire stronger collaboration and a shared commitment to fair and competitive markets.”
