ICS calls for coordinated action on Assomption Island compliance

The Island Conservation Society has welcomed the government’s decision to issue a prohibition order against the developers on Assomption Island for non-compliance with the conditions of the Environment Impact Assessment.

In a press release issued this week, the organisation stated that while irreversible harm has already occurred due to the non-compliance with the conditions and mitigation measures set forth in the Environment Impact Assessment and the Notice of Acceptance (NOA), it is hopeful that measures can be implemented swiftly to begin assessment and rehabilitation of the ecosystems on the island.
