Inmates attempt to interrupt planned operation against illegal contraband
The Seychelles prison service has confirmed that together with the Seychelles police force it managed to control an incident that unfolded at the Persévérance remand facility yesterday.
A press communiqué issued by the Seychelles prison service (SPS) at around 3pm yesterday, said prison officers were preparing to carry out an operation following credible intelligence concerning illegal contraband suspected to be handled within the facility, but before the operation could commence, the inmates involved were reportedly tipped off and subsequently turned against prison officers, preventing them from entering the section of the facility to carry out the planned operation. The area in question is a common section designated for daily inmate activities outside of their cells.
