Rockfall incident in Beolière, Port Glaud |15 October 2025

Road closes again after brief opening for election

After a brief re-opening from Friday October 10 at 4pm to Tuesday October 14 at 8am to facilitate the voting exercise, the section of road from Beolière hilltop to the former Mahé Beach Hotel, Port Glaud, is once again closed to all motorists and pedestrians.

In a press release issued yesterday, the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) said the Port Glaud sub-district, Des Arpents, remains a declared Potential Disaster Area under the Disaster Risk Management Act, 2014, following the rockfall incident of Monday September 15, 2025.

The road closure is part of ongoing safety measures and to reduce the immediate residual risks associated with the incident.

“The DRMD is currently implementing the second phase of mitigation works on the overhanging rock slab, which includes the construction of a barrier wall and the continuation of drilling and controlled cracking operations,” read the press release.

According to DRMD, these actions are preventive and life-saving measures undertaken in the best interest of the community and it is calling on the public for their full cooperation and understanding, particularly residents and road users in the Beolière area.

Further updates will be issued towards the end of the week, following a re-evaluation of the mitigation progress. Meanwhile, the public is advised to follow official announcements and avoid speculation.
