Jehovah’s Witnesses release Creole version of the bible

The opening day of the Witnesses’ Convention in Victoria was marked by an exciting announcement: The release of the bible translated into Seychellois Creole.

Attendees of Jehovah’s Witnesses’ annual three-day bible education convention at the International Conference Centre in Victoria received a brand-new translation of the bible and its first audio version in Seychellois Creole. The more than 528 attendees were deeply moved to receive a printed copy of this new translation. One attendee shared, “This was not my first assembly, but this particular one has deeply touched my heart as we were presented with the bible in our own language.»

The church undertook the project drawing on its extensive experience in translating bible-based publications. This release is the result of several years of careful work with the goal to provide people with the opportunity to read the bible in the language of their heart, as spoken in 2025. It tied directly into this year’s convention, ‘Pure Worship’. Each of the talks delivered over the three days explored passages from the bible, particularly regarding the life of Jesus Christ as presented in the Gospels.

In Seychelles, four congregations of Jehovah’s Witnesses hold their weekly Christian meetings in Seychellois Creole. In addition to the bible, magazines, books, videos, and songs, other types of content are translated monthly into this language and made freely available to the public on the website jw.org. This new version is already available in digital format.

At the close of the first day of the convention, joy was evident on the faces of attendees. Franck Duthuit, spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses in Seychelles, said, “The good news of the bible can bring inner peace and hope in a world overwhelmed by negative news. Jehovah’s Witnesses invite everyone to discover – or rediscover – this uplifting message by reading the new bible translated in Seychelles Creole.”
