ANHRD re-launches the Seychelles Human Resource Development Award |06 December 2019
The Agency for National Human Resource Development (ANHRD) yesterday officially re-launched the Seychelles Human Resource Development (SHRD) Award for 2019 after a hiatus from the second edition in 2014 and the first edition in 2011.
The re-launching of the third edition was made by the chief executive of ANHRD, Nadia Lauricourt, during a press conference held at the agency’s headquarters at Le Chantier Mall, in the presence of the chairman John Stravens and ANHRD manager Terrence Créa.
The overall winners in the main categories will receive R100,000 for staff training, a shield, certificate of achievement and a certificate of participation.
Mrs Lauricourt said that ANHRD wants to revive the award to bring to the attention of organisations the importance of human resource development “because we think that human resource is a very important component in any work organisation”.
The SHRD award presentation for 2019 will be held in December 2020. Prior to the presentation, there will be a meeting for HRD personnel from all organisations on January 16, 2020.
The idea of creating the SHRD award is to encourage and to share best practices among Human Resource Development (HRD) practitioners and also as a platform to reward the best practice of HRD through a transparent and systematic method. It is also a means of sensitising organisations on the importance of HRD.
Organisations from government, parastatal and the private sector on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue are eligible to take part where there will be overall awards of excellence for best practices for each category.
In line with the HRD Audit being conducted by ANHRD, the SHRD award is a way to also evaluate the status of HRD in the different organisations thus ensuring that the standards set locally as well as internationally are met.
The organisations can participate in four subcategories – micro, small, medium and large and HRD will be judged in 6 key criteria namely in (1) human resource planning, (2) recruitment, selection and retention, (3) performance management and evaluation, (4) training development and career management, (5) compensation and rewards, (6) health and safety.
Besides the winners, the runners-up will receive R30,000 for staff training plus certificates.
There will also be individual awards to organisations which show excellence in specific areas such as in employee development, employee engagement, in HR technologies, in leadership development, in recruitment and retention strategy and in performance management.
The prize for the excellence award will include R10,000 for staff training, a certificate of achievement and a certificate of participation. All organisations will be assessed through questionnaires followed by visits and interviews.
According to Mrs Lauricourt the winning oragnisation will decide where the training for their staff will be held, either locally or internationally.
She noted that all prizes will be sponsored by ANHRD and hopes to continue with the event on an annual basis.
Mr Crea said that ANHRD will be reaching out to all organisations to participate and hopes that they do participate.
As for Mr Stravens, he said that there is a lack of qualified HRD personnel in the country and that there is a need to train the trainers within the HRD.
Application forms are available on the ANHRD website and will also be sent through e-mails.
