Mass coral outplanting takes place in Curieuse Marine Park

By Mandy Bertin

With the aim of restoring and strengthening the health of the marine ecosystem of the Curieuse Marine Park, a number of coral fragments were planted yesterday within the protected area near St Pierre.

This mass coral outplanting activity coincided with the International Biodiversity Day.

It was organised by the Seychelles Parks and Gardens Authority (SPGA) in collaboration with dive centres based on Praslin and other partners committed to safeguarding Seychelles’ marine biodiversity.

Speaking to members of the media, SPGA’s chief executive, Allen Cedras, said it is the second time that this mass coral outplanting activity has been organised. The first was last year and was hailed a success. About 450 coral fragments were planted last year and this time 1700 are expected to be planted.
