President of Seychelles attending global Blue Economy conference in Kenya |24 November 2018
The President of Seychelles, Danny Faure, will be attending the first ever global high-level conference on the sustainable blue economy in Nairobi, Kenya, State House said on Friday.
Faure is attending the conference taking place from November 26-28 at the invitation of the President of Kenya, Uhuru Kenyatta. The overarching theme of the conference is ‘the blue economy and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.’
Kenya is co-hosting the conference, which is being organised in preparation for the United Nations Ocean’s Conference 2020, with Japan and Canada.
The goal of the ‘Global Blue Economy Conference’ is to have action-oriented discussions pertaining to a sustainable blue economy strategy that is people-centric, with ocean-centric investments.
The conference will provide an opportunity for both developing and developed countries to explore the concepts of sustainability, climate change and controlling pollution, and production, accelerated economic growth, jobs and poverty alleviation.
Around 4,000 participants are expected at the conference and this will include heads of states and governments, civil society leaders and heads of businesses from various sectors.
President Faure will be out of the office from November 26 to 29.
