Outgoing Swedish ambassador launches exhibition, donates books

The outgoing Swedish ambassador to Seychelles, Caroline Vicini, on Tuesday launched an exhibition themed ‘A Tribute to Children’s Books’ at the Seychelles National Library and donated 37 children’s books.
Some of the books features the famous character Pippi Longstocking, the fictional protagonist in a series of children's books by Swedish author Astrid Lindgren. Pippi was named by Lindgren's daughter, Karin, who asked her mother for a get-well story while she was home sick from school.
In her address, the ambassador noted that Seychelles being an island nation located far from other countries, the children could through those books from other countries travel in their minds and get a vision or learn about the culture, nature, and people of other nations.
“Although they might not be able to travel until they are older to see other continents, they will discover in these books reflections of values close to our hearts – first and foremost, the relationship with nature.”
