PUC imposes water restrictions

The Public Utilities Corporation has imposed water restrictions in north, north-west, and central regions of Mahé, since Monday April 28, 2025.

These are being implemented from 10pm to 5am.

In a press release issued yesterday, the company said these restrictions have become necessary due to a significant reduction in river flows, which has impacted the availability of water used for treatment.

“The aim is to conserve the limited water supply and ensure continuity of service for as long as possible,” reads the communiqué. The Public Utilities Corporation (PUC) is strongly advising customers to use water responsibly and avoid wastage; rely on their private storage facilities during restriction hours and to refrain from using water for non-essential purposes, such as washing vehicles, watering gardens, or filling pools.

The company said it will continue to monitor water levels and treatment capacity closely, and may revise the restrictions depending on changing conditions. It will share regular updates through its official website, social media platforms, and local media channels.
