Cabinet approves new laws for better control of hazardous chemicals

The Cabinet has approved the Hazardous Chemicals Bill and the Hazardous Chemical (Mercury) Regulations, to help Seychelles meet its international commitments under the Basel, Rotterdam, Stockholm, and Minamata Conventions.
These global agreements aim to protect human health and the environment from harmful chemicals and waste.
The new legal framework will introduce stronger rules for the classification, control, and disposal of hazardous chemicals such as mercury. It will also bring Seychelles’ standards in line with international best practices.
