The Employment department has expressed satisfaction with the results of the Labour Force Survey 2024, published by the National Bureau of Statistics.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), during the fourth quarter of 2024, the working age population was about 85,888 (40,592 males and 45,295 females). Some 62.7 percent of the working age population were employed, 1.3 percent unemployed and 32.5 percent were outside the labour force,
Therefore, the employed population stood at around 53,854 in the fourth quarter of 2024, and the unemployed population at 1,105. The overall unemployment rate was 2.0 percent for the quarter, with 2.2 percent for male and 1.8 percent for female. Within the youth group (population aged 15 to 24 years), the unemployment rate was 8.2 percent compared to 8.6 percent in Q4 2023.
Chief policy analyst in the Ministry of Employment and Social Affairs, Susan Morel, revealed in a press conference yesterday afternoon that the decrease in the unemployment rate applies to both the national rate, and among the youths aged 15-24 years.
“These results reflect the strong effort that the Employment department has put into labour market policies last year,” she stated.
