Office of the President and Ministry of Education set rules for Children’s Day school performances
The Office of the President and the Ministry of Education wish to inform all school headteachers, parents, students, and members of the public that artists who have expressed interest in performing in schools as part of Children's Day celebrations will be permitted to do so, subject to strict adherence to the established guidelines and code of conduct governing activities within educational institutions.
This is in response to concerns arising from an isolated incident during a recent school event where inappropriate content was performed in the presence of students and subsequently circulated on social media. As a precautionary measure, guidance was initially communicated to schools while consultations were undertaken.
Following these consultations, it has been agreed that schools may continue to host performances by artists during Children's Day activities, provided that all performances are appropriate for a school environment and aligned with the values and educational objectives upheld by the Ministry of Education and the Office of the President.
Headteachers are therefore requested to ensure that:
• All songs, performances, and presentations are age-appropriate, respectful, and suitable for a school audience.
• Content should promote positive values, good behaviour, respect, unity, patriotism, and the wellbeing of children.
• No lyrics, language, gestures, or messages that are vulgar, discriminatory, violent, sexually explicit, or otherwise inconsistent with the Ministry's Code of Conduct are permitted.
• School management maintains oversight of all planned performances and reserves the right to disallow any performance that fails to meet these standards.
The Office of the President and the Ministry of Education remain committed to providing safe, positive, and enriching experiences for all learners while supporting cultural expression and artistic engagement within our schools.
We thank all school leaders, artists, parents, and partners for their cooperation in ensuring that Children's Day celebrations remain meaningful, enjoyable, and appropriate for all children.
