Risk communication workshop targets media and PRs

 A three-day workshop on Risk Communication focusing on how to better disseminate trusted information to the general public especially during national emergencies or disasters, ended yesterday at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Resort & Casino.

The session for media representatives and public relation (PR) and communication officers, was organised by the Disaster Risk Management Division (DRMD) in collaboration with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) and the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC).

Launched on Tuesday by the chief risk management officer, Daniel Cetoupe, it was facilitated by Justine Dumas from UNDRR and Kerri Cox, risk communication specialist from Barbados.

Risk communication is communication intended to supply people who face a hazard or threat to their survival, health, or economic or social wellbeing, with the information they need to make informed and independent judgements about those risks.
