Cascade district gets sports equipment

A symbolic handing over ceremony of sports equipment took place last Friday at the Cascade district administration office, as part of the ongoing 'Adopt a District' programme which is a collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs.

The donation, including 100 balls (basketball and volleyball), along with a number of sports gears of varying sizes, has been sponsored by the Honorary Consul for Seychelles Reunion Jean-Claude Pech.

In the absence of Mr Pech, it was principal counsellor within the foreign affairs department Ralph Agrippine who presented the equipment to member of the National Assembly (MNA) for Cascade Philip Monthy, in the presence of district’s administrator Begita Melanie, and director for consular and diaspora affairs Shirley Low-Meng.

Some of the equipment will benefit district’s sports teams, while the remaining will go towards various community activities, including sports-based mentorship programmes, holiday activities, and district’s sports events.

In his remarks, MNA Monthy highlighted the significance of the donation, noting that Cascade has quite a number of sports teams, including the Cascade Bullets basketball team, Cascade women’s volleyball team, along with several of the district’s footballers who play in other teams such as Foresters and Au Cap.

The equipment, he said, will surely be put to good use.

On his part, Mr Agrippine emphasised the importance of seizing opportunities provided by the 'Adopt a District' programme, encouraging district authorities around Seychelles to solicit assistance needed for their communities.
