SRC, courier services sign MoU |03 February 2024
The Seychelles Revenue Commission has signed a memorandum of understanding with three courier companies, namely FedEx, Mahe Shipping and DHL.
The signing at the trade department’s headquarters at Maison Esplanade took place yesterday afternoon.
Present for the ceremony were Fred Morel, Seychelles Revenue Commission’s (SRC) acting commissioner general; Neddy Padayachy, chief executive of the Postal Regulator; Sandy Benoiton, chief executive of Air Seychelles for FedEx; Christophe Houareau, managing director of Hunt, Deltel & Co Ltd for DHL Seychelles; and Angelique Appoo, managing director of Mahe Shipping.
The memorandum of understanding has many objectives which include enhancing collaborative effort to identify areas of cooperation between the parties to ensure compliance and take necessary actions against persons in breach of the applicable laws administered by each respective party or other relevant laws of Seychelles.
It is also aimed at enhancing information sharing and intelligence where there are suspicious activities, consult each other on a regular basis to address any areas of mutual concern and interest, outline the obligations and responsibilities of each party vis-à-vis customs’ rules and regulations, as well as share capacity building initiatives and opportunities to benefit all parties, among others.
Speaking to Seychelles NATION after the event, Paul Barrack, commissioner of customs said the document comprises different elements such as “the element of confidentiality from both parties and that of training as well.”
The short ceremony ended with a group photo of the respective stakeholders.
