UCPS faces temporary slowdown in production due to crusher breakdown |29 December 2023
Urges patience amidst festive rush
The tertiary crusher’s bush of the secondary plant at the United Concrete Products Seychelles (UCPS), situated in Anse Des Genets, has unfortunately broken down, slowing down production temporarily.
This was revealed to Seychelles Nation yesterday by the company’s chief executive, Gregory Albert, when seeking clarification as to why there were long queues outside the secondary plant.
He explained the bush to the tertiary crusher has to be changed every eight years and it has broken down at a time when all suppliers were on holiday. “They will be resuming on January 3,” said Mr. Albert.
He explained that instead of getting people to wait for two weeks, the company has decided to do the necessary to get a reduced but stable production. “This will continue for about two weeks, and we did not want to make people wait that long, until we can get the necessary spares.”
There are three tertiary crushers at the second plant and only two out of three are currently in use. “The quantity being produced per hour is less.” Mr Albert added that people rushing to buy materials before the long holiday, has also led to long queues at the plant.
He is urging the public to bear with them whilst they await the spare parts from the suppliers after the holidays.
