Global Teen Challenge donates to December 7 Disaster Relief Fund

The handover of the donation

The Global Teen Challenge has donated US $15,000 to the December 7 Disaster Relief Fund.

The presentation was made on December 22 at Liberty House in the presence of Comptroller General Astrid Tamatave and Principal Project Accountant Patrick Course, on behalf of the government of the Seychelles.

The symbolic cheque was presented by the Africa Regional Director for Teen Challenge, Reverend Dr Jacobus Nomdoe, and the National Director, Jude Fred.

The presentation gave the Africa Regional Director the opportunity to share more about the organisation's mission globally, how it can bring further support to those affected by the disaster, and its vision to assist in restoring the lives of those affected by substance abuse.

Already, there are some programmes of intervention, prevention, and educational awareness being conducted locally.

Dr Nomdoe said, “In 2024, we will step up our programmes of intervention in the Seychelles. As to what I have observed on the streets compared to 2019, it has sadly gotten a bit worse. We acknowledge the effort made by the government in cutting the supply reduction, but more work is required in community intervention, prevention, and recovery."

For his part, the Seychelles National Director, Mr Fred, who is also the Founder of Everlasting Love Ministries International, said, “The organisation has already submitted a combined project to the government of Seychelles that will support the teen challenge programmes in Seychelles, and that now remains in the hands of the government to accept the proposal and support and walk the community towards a path of recovery.”

During his visit, Dr Nomdoe visited areas currently affected with drug abuse and sites affected by the tragic incident. On behalf of the global organisation, Dr Jacobus Nomdoe conveyed words of encouragement and comfort from the Global Teen Challenge President and CEO, Brice Maddock, to the people of the Seychelles at this very challenging moment, believing that, by the grace of God, the country will show resilience and bounce back from the tragic events of December 7, 2023.
Global Teen Challenge is a non-profit organisation on a mission to help men, women, boys and girls in every nation find freedom from life-controlling problems. Teen Challenge has been helping people find freedom from life-controlling addictions since its inception in 1958. To date, thousands of people have been rehabilitated, thousands of families restored, and thousands of communities have been strengthened. In 1995, they brought the life-changing programmes to the nations — to schools, prisons, neighbourhoods, and alleyways where tens of thousands more people are crying for help.
