● Early years phonics workshop, Big Read event, and curriculum morning leave a lasting impact
Parents flocked to the International School Seychelles (ISS) recently for an interactive Early Years Phonics Workshop, showcasing a keen interest in supporting their children's foundational literacy skills at home.
The workshop, held on November 14, witnessed a robust turnout as parents eagerly participated in learning how to assist their children with sounds and letter writing.
The Early Years Phonics Workshop, Big Read Event, and Curriculum Morning held at ISS were met with enthusiasm and active participation from parents and students alike.
Early Years Phonics Workshop (November 14): Our Early Years Phonics Workshop welcomed a significant number of parents eager to enhance their understanding of supporting their younger children with sounds and letter writing at home. The workshop provided valuable insights into effective strategies for fostering early literacy development and strategies to support learning at home.
Big Read Event (November 15): The following day, Wednesday November 15, parents from Reception 1 to Year 6 joined us for the Big Read Event. The morning was filled with shared reading experiences, creating a warm and collaborative atmosphere. Adding a unique twist to the event, Reception children took on the role of educators, imparting their knowledge to their parents by sharing the exciting activities and lessons they have been engaged in. This not only enhanced the children's confidence but also provided parents with a deeper understanding of their child's daily learning experiences.
Curriculum Morning (November 15 - Secondary Section): Simultaneously, the secondary section hosted its first Curriculum Morning, attracting a significant turnout of parent’s eager to actively engage in learning alongside their children.
These events reflect our commitment to building a strong partnership between ISS and parents, ensuring the holistic development of our students. We believe that active involvement from parents contributes significantly to the overall success and well-being of our school community.
“We are thrilled to see such enthusiastic participation from our parents in both the Early Years Phonics Workshop, the Big Read event and Curriculum Morning. These initiatives underline our commitment to building a strong partnership between the school and parents, ensuring the holistic development of our students,” said Elodie Vallantine, Principal of ISS.
ISS continues to embrace innovative approaches to foster a collaborative learning environment that extends beyond the classroom. The success of these recent events further reinforces the school's dedication to creating meaningful connections between educators, students, and parents.
