SL untied claim the National Championship division one title

SL United emerged victorious in the 2023 SCA National Cricket Championship division one by defeating GSP 7s A with an impressive 8-wicket win in the final last  Sunday, November 19th. This marked SL United's inaugural T20 championship title in a Seychelles National league, breaking their two-time runner-up streak in previous tournaments.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, GSP 7s A faced an uphill battle against SL United's formidable bowling lineup. Their innings got off to a shaky start, losing three wickets for just 10 runs in 1.3 overs. Despite building a partnership for the fourth wicket, GSP 7s A faced another setback at 37 runs. The fall of the fifth wicket at 55 runs triggered a series of batting collapses, ultimately resulting in GSP 7s A being bowled out for 74 runs in 14.1 overs.

Ankith Kanchan emerged as the standout performer for GSP 7s A, contributing a valuable 34 runs (with 5 fours) off 28 balls. Sameer added 13 runs off 16 balls as the second-highest scorer.

SL United's Lahiru Hettiarachchi delivered an outstanding bowling performance, claiming 4 wickets for a mere 10 runs in 3.1 overs.

 Soahan Halpe and Thimeera Madusanka also made significant contributions, picking up 2 wickets each.

In pursuit of the modest target, SL United's openers laid a solid foundation, amassing 51 runs for the first wicket.

 Although they lost their second wicket at 65 in 9.2 overs, SL United comfortably chased down the target in 10.1 overs, finishing with 78 runs and losing only two wickets.

Mayura Nuwan played a pivotal role in the successful chase, scoring a brilliant 33 runs off 34 balls with 5 fours. Sameera Perera added 22 runs off 16 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six.

For GSP 7s A, Mugilan Rajan and Kothandam managed to pick up a wicket each but couldn't prevent SL United from securing the title.

The player of the match title was rightfully awarded to Lahiru Hettiarachchi of SL United for his exceptional bowling performance in the tournament final.
