New Egyptian ambassador calls on deputy speaker |14 October 2023
New Egyptian ambassador to Seychelles, Wael M. Nasr El-Din M. Attiya, paid a courtesy call on the deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Gervais Henrie, on Thursday.
The ambassador, who is based in Nairobi, Kenya, expressed his gratefulness for this visit and for the opportunity to strengthen the relations between Egypt and Seychelles.
Mr Attiya discussed the importance of educational and vocational opportunities between the two countries, noting that the exchange of expertise and resources would provide the prospect of partnerships and development.
The ambassador noted that the number of Seychelles’ beneficiaries to educational courses in Egypt has fallen recently and emphasised the need to reinvigorate the national interest as well as resolve any logistical issues preventing the transfer of visitors.
A point was made regarding trade links and export infrastructure, with the ambassador remarking that agricultural development is a very important mutual area of interest.
Hon. Henrie responded in kind, emphasising the importance of educational opportunities for Seychellois citizens and of the exchanges in technical knowledge and research that could benefit both Egypt and Seychelles. The relevance of cultural and sports related exchanges was also noted for future discussion. The deputy Speaker also remarked on continually improving the bilateral relations between Egypt and Seychelles and developing more capacity-building interactions in the future.
The two men concluded the meeting by exchanging symbolic tokens of appreciation.
Deputy Speaker Henrie was accompanied by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Tania Isaac.
