Message from President Wavel Ramkalawan on the occasion of the 33rd Teachers' Day – October 5, 2023 |05 October 2023
‘Teachers adapt to new teaching methods, embrace technology to ensure education remains a beacon of hope and progress’
“Today, October 5, 2023, marks the 33rd Teachers' Day in our country, a day where we come together to honour and appreciate the tireless efforts of the true architects of our society – Our Teachers.
“On this special occasion, we reflect upon the profound impact that teachers have on shaping the minds and future of our nation's youth.
“This year, we align our commemoration with the theme chosen by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco): ‘The teachers we need for the education we want: The global imperative to reverse the teacher shortage’. This theme underscores the critical importance of addressing the global shortage of teachers to ensure quality education for all.
“Our teachers play a pivotal role in moulding not just the intellectual capacities of our children, but also in instilling values, fostering creativity, and nurturing the skills that will guide them through life. In the face of challenges, they have shown remarkable resilience, adapting to new teaching methods, embracing technology to ensure that education remains a beacon of hope and progress.
“The Seychelles government remains committed to investing in education, recognising the fundamental role teachers play in the transformation journey of our education system as we continuously strive to find innovative solutions to address the shortage of teachers in our education system along with the various challenges.
“Dear teachers, today, I express my deepest gratitude to all of you who dedicate your lives to shaping the minds of our youth. Let me assure you, that your commitment, passion, and dedication do not go unnoticed, for the impact you make resonate far beyond the walls of the classroom.
“I call upon the entire nation to join me in celebrating the teachers of Seychelles. Let us honour their contributions, recognise their devotion, and collectively support them in ensuring that every child has access to quality education.
“Happy Teachers' Day to the true champions of our society!”
