Charity fashion show in aid of Liam’s Rainbow Foundation

Telly’s Modelling Agency in collaboration with the Fisherman’s Cove Resort recently held a charity fashion show in aid of Liam’s Rainbow Foundation.

The fashion show with the theme ‘Vann Swet Collection’ saw the participation of four designers – three Seychellois and a foreigner. The three local stylists were Hanaad Marcel with her ‘Zialor’ collection of casual and beach wear, Athalia Barbé with her ‘Elegance Africain’ collection of African wear and Mona Ashung who had two collections, evening and casual wear under her own name ‘Mona Ashung collection’. Stylist Hana Amdetsion from Ethiopia showcased her ‘Ethiopia Zenbaba swim’ collection of casual and beach wear.

The charitable fashion show in front of the 100 plus audience, took place on the open air patio of the hotel.

Speaking to Seychelles NATION, Telly’s Modelling Agency director Terry Carola said the idea to have the fashion show under the theme ‘Vann Swet’ derives from the south-east monsoon season the country is experiencing. He added that given the theme, they were hoping for light showers to add ambience with a show of umbrellas from the audience, but unfortunately it did not rain.

“This is why we had the show outside, so that the guests would experience the little drizzle while enjoying the show. We did warn them to bring their umbrellas and they did, but unfortunately the weather was fine that night,” said Mr Carola who noted that the charity activity was very successful.

He said a considerable amount was raised, alongside an auction sale of 12 different items.

Mr Carola said the fashion show is a preparation for the Seychelles Fashion week to take place on November 24, 2023 on La Digue, November 25, 2023 on Praslin and on Mahe on December 2, 2023.  He added that the agency plans to host the ‘Vann Swet’ fashion show annually during the south-east monsoon season from April to October as well as a ‘Vann Nor’ fashion show during the north-east monsoon season from November to March.

Liam’s Rainbow Foundation is a non-profit organisation devoted to providing support to children living with terminal or debilitating illnesses. Named in remembrance of Liam Rangasamy, a seven-year-old boy who fought against DIPG – a rare, aggressive brain stem tumour – the foundation is looking to construct a playhouse on the hospital premises for children undergoing treatment, to provide them with a place to play, learn and to heal.
