Airtel has awarded the first ‘Managing Director’s Special Recognition Award’ to Airtel Seychelles’ manager, Marie-Pierre Volcère.

It is the first time in 25 years that the prestigious award is bestowed upon an Airtel Seychelles staff.

The award is given to the candidate who demonstrates passion about their work and delivers quality work and strongly lives Airtel values in everything that they do.

This is a prestigious award as it covers the Airtel Africa values which are Alive, Inclusive, Respectful known as (AIR) as well as other good values, which reflect a typical employee.

The rewards for gaining this prize includes a plaque, a framed certificate, a bouquet and R3000 from Airtel, along with a dinner for two sponsored by Coral Strand.

Ms Volcère’s award also led Airtel Seychelles to win the International Bharti award for Corporate Social Responsibility.

In an interview with Seychelles NATION, Ms Volcère, who is the manager of the MD’s office and CSR coordinator, pointed out that she did not expect to win the prize and the recognition award came as a surprise.

She described herself as someone who is passionate about work, ensures accountability, social justice, collaborate with other departments when required, as well as care for others in need.

“I am the type of person that always delivers my work and where there are people in need, I provide a helping hand,” she stated.

Ms Volcère said although she was up against many other candidates, she believes her value-added service have increased her chances, as she always goes above and beyond the call of duty in order to bring customer satisfaction, which is a paramount goal in Airtel.

“I do not work directly with clients, but I will always make sure to go out of my way to assist. For example, if there is a client but we are not open yet, I will approach them and see if they need help. If they are doing something such as paying their bill, we have the Airtel app so I will help them in that scenario,” she explained.

She has even gone so far as to build a relationship with customers who now rely on her to attend to their needs effectively and fast.

“I will share the number of an employee from a department and if they cannot assist, then I will see how best I can help. I always make sure there is closure,” she said.

Prior to the ‘Managing Director’s Special Recognition Award’, Ms Volcère has been the recipient of multiple awards in 2013, 2014 and 2016, when she was nominated employee of the month and 2022 when she was nominated employee of the quarter.

She also won the CSR International Award for Airtel Africa, which was an international competition. One of the projects was rainwater harvesting to reduce water bills by 50 percent, initiated by the Ministry of Education and the environment department.

“When they approached us, we decided it was a good project to help the school,” she said, adding it covers all the schools.

Ms Volcère stated her hardworking ethic and disciplinary mindset started from a very young age, which she carried with her throughout her professional career.

“I will say that Airtel has helped me to grow and for this I would like to extend a heartfelt gratitude to the management.”
