Transparency watchdogs team up to promote good governance
Transparency Mauritius (TM) and Transparency Initiative Seychelles (TiS) have signed a three-year memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration and promote transparency, good governance and integrity in their respective countries.
In a communique released yesterday, TiS stated that the MoU focuses on several key areas of cooperation.
These include the promotion and advocacy of transparency and good governance, where they would collaborate on joint initiatives and campaigns, advocating for anti-corruption measures, integrity in the public and private sectors, and raise awareness of the importance of transparency in society.
They also plan to establish a mechanism to share relevant information, best practices, and research findings on corruption, transparency, and good governance.
The MoU also covers collaboration to increase access to climate change financing, where according to the TiS, they will work together to facilitate access to climate funds by promoting the elements of transparency and accountability in climate finance mechanisms.
Another area covered is corruption and anti-money laundering, where they will share experiences, knowledge, and best practices.
They will also support initiatives to strengthen legal frameworks, promote transparency in financial transactions, and enhance anti-corruption measures.
The development of investigative journalism will also be supported and promoted as well as Open Government Partnership Initiatives (OGP) by advocating for the adoption and implementation of OGP commitments.
Finally the MoU covers collaboration on youth-focused initiatives, including workshops, mentoring programes and awareness campaigns to empower young people to foster transparency and integrity.
Both TM and TiS have emphasised that cooperation is an evolving process and they remain open to exploring additional areas of collaboration in the future.
According to the press release, they are committed to maintaining regular communication to evaluate the need for expanding their collaboration and identify new opportunities for cooperation.
“We are delighted to partner with Transparency Initiative Seychelles to advance our shared goals of transparency and good governance,” said Brinda Devi Dabysing, director of Transparency Mauritius. “Through our collaboration, we aim to make a significant impact in combating corruption and fostering integrity in our countries.”
Chrystold Chetty, chairman of Transparency Initiative Seychelles, added, “This partnership represents a major step towards strengthening governance and promoting transparency.
By working together, we can drive positive change and create a more accountable society.”
“Both organisations are excited about the prospects of this collaboration and are committed to making a lasting impact in the fight against corruption and the promotion of transparency and good governance,” read the communique.
