President Wavel Ramkalawan

‘We have an important mission

to protect and nurture children’

President Wavel Ramkalawan has said that, as adults, we have an important mission to protect and nurture children, allowing them to grow and learn in a world that values and respects their uniqueness.

The President said this in his message on the occasion of Children’s Day, today.

The full text of President Ramkalawan’s message reads:

“On this joyous occasion of Children's Day, I extend my warmest greetings and heartfelt wishes to all the children of Seychelles who bring laughter, curiosity, and brightness to our nation.

“Children's Day is a reminder of how amazing you all are. I strongly believe that you have so much potential and power within you to make good choices, thus, make our country better. As adults, we have an important mission to protect and nurture you, allowing you to grow and learn in a world that values and respects your uniqueness.

“Childhood should be a magical time when you can dream big, be curious and ask endless questions.

“For that reason, we want to make sure you have access to quality education, health care and make you feel safe to play and discover new things. Be assured that we believe in you and we want to give you the best opportunities to become strong and successful citizens ‒ therefore, believe in yourself too!

“Use your imagination and creativity to make our country and the world better places. Your ideas and dreams also matter, so, dream of a better future and be smart!  Be kind, understanding, and respectful to others, to help create a society that celebrates differences and treats everyone with fairness and love.

“To all parents, teachers, and people who are guiding you, we say thank you. Be humble, listen to them and learn from their wisdom and experiences, for they have your best interest at heart.

“However, always be cautious and mindful of harmful behaviours and activities that may deter you from achieving your full potential. We promise to protect your rights, make sure you have the chance to learn, play and a voice in decisions that affect your lives.

“Wishing you all a joyful and blessed Children’s Day!”
