New Swiss ambassador presents credentials |10 May 2023
The ambassador of the Swiss Confederation to Seychelles, Rolf Stalder, presented his credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan yesterday morning at State House, in the presence of the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism, Sylvestre Radegonde.
Speaking to the press after his meeting with the President, Ambassador Stalder said that they talked about the excellent relations between the two countries and how it can be improved further.
They also discussed cooperation in the tourism sector given that both our country and Switzerland have an important tourism sector for which exchange of experiences will be of great benefit to both countries.
Climate change was also a topic of discussion between President Ramkalawan and Ambassador Stalder, how they can cooperate, as smaller countries in the international system, to really fight against the phenomenon affecting both countries.
“Today climate change affects our countries in different ways and I think it is now understood at the level of politics that we have to do something,” said Ambassador Stalder, who noted that both countries have to cooperate at bilateral and international levels to find a solution against climate change.
Following his meeting with the President, Ambassador Stalder paid a courtesy call on Vice-President Ahmed Afif.
Ambassador Stalder, who replaces Ambasador Chasper Sarott, is the 12th Swiss ambassador to our country. He will be based in Antananarivo, Madagascar.
Seychelles and Switzerland established diplomatic relations in 1981.
