Tiling project for back offices and auditorium of Palais de Justice completed

Director of Wellpoint Development Margaret Sun

A project signed in January 2023 between the government through the Ministry of Land and Housing, the Seychelles Infrastructure Agency (SIA), and Wellpoint Development Company PTY Limited was officially completed and handed over yesterday to its recipient – the Judiciary of Seychelles.

Wellpoint Development Company aimed to have the tiling work done in 5 months, but completed the project in a record 45 days. A total of 29 offices were tiled, inclusive of the auditorium, which equates to 2503 sq.mt.

The cost of this tiling project is R746,867.00.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony yesterday, in the newly tiled auditorium of the Palais de Justice, Director of Wellpoint, Margaret Sun, noted, “we are grateful to the ministry and the Judiciary for this opportunity and we have really done the best job we could in the shortest time possible”.

She also thanked the users and staff of the Judiciary for their cooperation while they moved offices to accommodate for the contractors.

Ms Sun, assistant project manager for SIA, Brighton Mapfumo, and Chief Justice Rony Govinden all signed the documents in the presence of stakeholders and other representatives from the respective ministries, agencies, and court staff.

The Chief Justice also shared a word of thanks to the contracting company and to the ministry for their assistance, swift work, and noted, “we are grateful that we were able to continue our services and work, without interruption, while this project was ongoing. The first phase of the tiling work done by a different contractor was also successful, so there was pressure on Wellpoint to do well. They have exceeded our expectations”.

The aim of the project, which is the second phase of tiling that started in the courtrooms and judges’ offices in its first phase, was to update the tiles in back offices where the floors were pealing and where wires were exposed. This is considered a health and safety hazard in the work place. Proper tiling and tracking space for wires and plugs were installed throughout the course of this project. Offices targeted included the Criminal and Civil Registries, Court Typists, and the main auditorium of the Palais de Justice building.
