Nigeria’s Ruger to perform in Seychelles

• Afrobeats is coming to town!

Nigerian Afrobeat singer and songwriter Michael Adebayo Olayinka, popularly known as Ruger, will be performing live in Seychelles on February 3, at the Music Stadium, Victoria.

The man himself, Ruger, confirmed the performance and date in a short social media video posted by the show organisers on Monday, sending local fans into a frenzy.

The young artist, who hails from Lagos State, rose to fame with his hit Bounce from his debut EP Pandemic, in 2021, and has since grown in popularity across the continent and the world.

At the tender age of 20, Ruger was signed to Jonzing World Record by talent manager D'Prince where he dropped his first single One Shirt featuring Remi and D’Prince. The 6-track Pandemic EP comprising Bounce, Mona Lisa, Abu Dhabi and Bow followed shortly after, successfully landing him his first hits and establishing him on the Nigerian music scene.

Within the same year, in November 2021, Ruger dropped his second project titled The Second Wave, a 4-track EP on which the much-loved Dior, Snapchat, Useless and Champion can be found. Based on the success of the EP, The Ruger Tour kicked off in May 2022 in the United Sates (US) where the artist performed in cities such as Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston and other countries.

Local crowds will surely not miss out the young talent as he makes his way to Seychelles along with his own DJ and other members of his team for the epic show.

Tickets will be available as from next week from Dara’s Plus (ex Kot Do) and Royalty Streetwear shop at R300, while VIP tickets are priced at R1000. They will also be available at the gate for a slightly higher price, at R350.

Those hoping to make a memorable evening of the event will have the opportunity to do so from as early as 7pm, as local artists and DJs are also lined-up to get the crowds and vibes going. Mercenary, Jahkim, Gunz and Aslan will all be performing on the night before the man himself takes to the stage, alongside DJ Giovani, DJ Big 1 and DJ Not Nyce.

A number of individuals and organisations have pulled together for the show featuring an international act, the first of the year and the second since the easing of Covid- restrictions last year. Trence Bartending Service and Veuve Productions are the main organisers behind the historical event, with the support of Marketing Guru and Pure FM Seychelles.

“Since the official announcement a few days ago, feedback has been nothing short of positive and fans are ‘hyper’,” DJ Not Nyce confirmed to Seychelles NATION.

Music lovers and afrobeats fans are advised to buy their tickets as early as possible to avoid disappointment for what is possibly one of the most exciting events on the national calendar thus far.
