Kilogame taking the local shores by storm |09 January 2023
Introduced with the aim of helping people lose weight and encourage them to live a healthy lifestyle through exercising and proper dieting, the Kilogame workout programme has surpassed the expectations of the initiators in 2022, attracting a large number of people whose progress bears testimony of the programme’s efficiency and success.
The programme’s main focus is on weight loss and fitness through two key elements, mainly exercise and proper dieting.
The exercise part is divided into various forms of high interval intensive training (HIIT) which are not necessarily carried out for long period, but focussing rather on intensity which boosts the calorie loss process.
Exercise sessions are conducted in group sessions, encouraging motivation and peer support.
As for the dieting part which covers about 70 percent of the process, all members are given a meal plan which helps them to prepare their body to match the exercise component, thus providing the right balance and easing the weight-loss process.
According to programme initiator Jean-Michel Vidot, it is only through proper combination of the two elements of the programme that results will be seen.
He added that consistency, along with self-motivation and discipline are also key elements in obtaining the perfect results out of the Kilogame programme.
One-hour sessions are conducted thrice daily – 7.30am to 8.30am, 3.30pm to 4.30pm and 5pm to 6pm – except for Wednesdays and Sundays, while on Saturdays, only one session takes place between 7.30am and 8.30am.
This totals to 13 sessions per week, and 52 monthly sessions for a sum of only R500.
Mr Vidot explained that with the huge increase in obesity in the country, they have decentralised the programme, bringing it closer to the community, targeting all four regions of Mahé.
The sessions are presently being carried out at Anse Royale, Persévérance and Roche Caïman and, based on demand, there are plans to extend the service.
Mr Vidot further explained that the programme has no limits in terms of sessions wished to be attended by an individual, noting that one can attend all three daily sessions if he or she wishes to, depending on their fitness level and ability.
He said participants are encouraged to weigh regularly, thus personally monitor their progress, while it will also allow the instructor to keep an eye on the progress and assess the participants to see whether they are taking the right path, or if they need additional, or special attention to succeed.
To ease the monitoring process, Mr Vidot said all participants are weighed before and after each session and are also encouraged to weigh at home, keeping a personal record.
Mr Vidot further added that to motivate the participants and to bring a spirit of camaraderie and friendship, they organise several activities, including hikes and camps to bring all the participants together, thus promoting the idea of group work and cooperation among them.
He encourages everyone who wishes to change their lifestyle, adopting healthy living through exercise and proper diet to join the programme, and that is only if they are willing to adopt a sense of discipline and self-motivation.
Those who wish to join can call 2558423 (Persévérance), 2541818 (Au Cap), 2586417 (Beau Vallon), 2580007 (Anse Boileau), 2821440 (Roche Caïman), 2558423 (Praslin) and 2635952) Victoria.
