A brief insight into the history of Seychelles’ basketball – Part 3
It was in 1993 that the transition from regionalisation to club sports in Seychelles took place, reflecting a significant shift in how sports are organised and promoted across the country.
Prior to 1993, the sports structure in Seychelles was primarily based on regionalisation, where sporting activities and competitions were hosted through regional or district teams.
The approach allowed for wide participation at the grassroots level and helped identify talent within local communities.
However, it often lacked the consistency, long-term development, and professionalism required to advance athletes to higher levels.
