Cable & Wireless Seychelles launches new product in partnership with Showmax |15 November 2022
- All live sports offered in English
All Cable & Wireless Seychelles clients can now access on their phones and tablets the Showmax’s extensive streaming service and watch all the live sports in English, series and movies by subscribing to the new product launched yesterday.
This was made possible as Cable & Wireless Seychelles (CWS) and Showmax, a MultiChoice Group subsidiary, announced their partnership.
“Clients having a CWS phone number will access the service through the Showmax Pro Mobile plan, providing CWS mobile customers with an even more enriching entertainment experience and access to Showmax’s full entertainment catalogue as well as live sport from SuperSport. The cost of such a service is set at R135 and clients will use their data for that,” said Nigel Rosette, manager IPTV Content at CWS.
If the client is a postpaid customer, the charge will be added to their end-of-the-month bill and if he/she is a prepaid customer, the charge will come off their account balance.
While showcasing the new product at Sunshine Building, Mr Rosette and his team noted that the partnership is timely in an era of streaming services where customers are able to enjoy abundant choices in entertainment.
“The demand for fresh and compelling content, greater user experience, and services matters. This partnership emerged after CWS wanted to meet customers’ needs and from closely following changes in consumer content consumption trends. Therefore, the collaboration with Showmax is aimed at satisfying increasingly mobile-centric customers, a market that is currently underserved in Seychelles,” added Mr Rosette.
How will this work? CWS mobile customers already have access to MyCare and through that application, they can buy access to a 30-day Showmax subscription by doing either of the following:
Option 1: USSD Shortcode
Step 1: Dial #155*1#; Step 2: Select Showmax Pro Mobile; Step 3: Click the link in the confirmation SMS (You will be sent an SMS after selecting your package) and finally Step 4: Enjoy 30 days of Showmax!
Option 2: MyCare
Step 1: Register for a MyCare account, or log in to your existing account; Step 2: Select Shop; Step 3: Select Boosters; Step 4: Select Showmax Booster; Step 5: Enter the OTP (You will be sent an SMS containing an OTP to validate your identity); Step 6: Click the link in the confirmation SMS (You will be sent an SMS after selecting your package) and Step 7: Enjoy 30 days of Showmax!
What about data usage and proper network to stream the content?
Mr Rosette explained that during the year, CWS installed 15 base transceiver stations to boost up connection around the islands. Customers will have to use Wi-Fi and/or data and they can control how much data to use by choosing from three streaming qualities. To manage this, simply go to Bandwidth Capping in your Showmax app settings and select your preference.
The Showmax app also lets the customer download shows and movies to watch offline on the smartphone or tablet, so they can save data.
How much data does Showmax consume?
African streaming service Showmax gives its subscribers even more control over how much data they use, with the addition of a Max Data Saving mode that uses just 50MB per hour. This is currently available within the iOS mobile version of the Showmax app and will be rolled out to Android app users soon. This follows the earlier introduction of Low and Data Savings modes, which use up to 300MB and 100MB per hour respectively. In comparison, the Maximum Quality setting, which gives the consumer the best possible picture, uses up to 1.4GB per hour.
CWS is looking to offer this service over more platforms in the future as it plans to become a one-stop entertainment solution, whereby customers will have numerous entertainment options to choose from according to their preferences and at attractive prices to continue ensuring only the best service for its customers.
Customer can also plug in their phones/tablets to their television sets.
Launched in 2015, Showmax is an African streaming service that combines African content, first and exclusive international series, kids’ shows, and live sport from SuperSport on its Showmax Pro plan including the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, La Liga, and every single match of the Fifa World Cup Qatar 2022.
In addition to live sport, Showmax subscribers can stream a selection of entertainment including original African fantasy series Blood Psalms; all episodes of Steinheist, the docuseries about South Africa’s biggest corporate scandal; Diiche, a Showmax Nigerian Original limited series; Journey of the Beats, a 10-part docuseries on the origin and evolution of Afrobeats; Kenyan political drama series, County49, and original thriller series, Igiza.
