Karting     Season-ending kart Grand Prix this weekend

The Seychelles Karting Association will hold its season-ending karting festival with their kart Grand Prix Final this coming Sunday where all the racing categories will be on show.

This year the highlight will be the two groups from the karting academy who have recently completed their training course, and will be racing officially for the first time. These will be the very young Academy Bambino class made up of 8–10-year-old drivers and the Academy Cadets comprising drivers from 12 to 16+ years old. Apart from them, the usual classes made up of the ultra-fast Masters class, the Intermediates and the Juniors will be competing for their respective Grand prix (GP) titles.

The GP is scheduled to start early morning with qualifying for all the classes, which will be followed by the first of five finals scheduled to start at around 10am. The top three from each category will be awarded prizes after the finals, and thereafter the association will hold a small gathering at the circuit for its annual prize-giving ceremony, where the trophies from the 10-round 2022 karting championship will be awarded to the champions and all the podium finishers as well as various other special awards.

This year, Liqui Moly local agent CSA trading is again sponsoring the finals and organisers are hoping that the weather will allow for a special and memorable kart festival which will bring to a close the racing season for this year.

Though the racing season will come to an end, the association will still be having another special event the following weekend where a group of karting supporters, volunteers, parents and past drivers will be invited to have an opportunity to drive the karts for a few laps on the Champions Park raceway.

Meanwhile, the 2023 season is scheduled to open with the annual general meeting (AGM) at the end of January and a lot of new drivers will be taking their places in the various classes for what is expected to be another exciting racing season. The Seychelles karting organising committee will be busy during the close season seeking sponsors for the new season where there is a desperate need to resurface the deteriorating track surface, installing softer safety crash barriers, procuring timing system upgrades, office facilities and most importantly preparing the karts to a higher standard before they are used again next season.
