Karate 20 young Ashihara karatekas promoted |20 October 2022
Twenty young karatekas from the two dojos on Mahé have been promoted to one and up to three blue stripes on their white belts and others who have been training for a year, to blue belts to show the progress made in this style
In keeping its reputation as one of the most active karate schools in the country, the Ashihara karate school held the grading session on Saturday October 8 at the Persévérance primary school.
Senpai Vincent Benstrong, 2nd dan black belt, conducted the promotion test under the watchful eyes of shihan Egbert Moustache 5th dan black belt, the chief examiner and head of the school.
“These young members have trained hard for their achievement and it is important to keep them motivated,” said Senpai Benstrong.
He explained that the Senpai (instructors) worked hard to ensure that the standard is maintained at all levels in spite of having a lot of members.
The Ashihara dojo, which also teaches self-defence to women, caters for the serious athletes while at the same time encouraging a “family friendly” atmosphere and accommodates older athletes, as well as anyone physically challenged.
Ashihara Karate Seychelles has dojos at Anse Royale and Mont Fleuri on Mahé, one dojo on La Digue and there are demands for one on Praslin. Interested individuals can check out the school’s website and Facebook page for more information.
Shihan Moustache said the last activity for the school is a training camp and championship in December in Cape Town, South Africa if all goes according to plan.
The Ashihara karate instructors at the school would like to thank Seychelles Karate Federation chairman Donald Celestine, parents and individuals who contributed to the success of this great event.
