Elderly couple tie the knot after meeting at old people’s home

The couple exchanging vows at the Mayor’s Office

Two elderly grandparents got married in a heartwarming ceremony on Tuesday this week after meeting at the Au Cap elderly home and falling in love.

Benoit Fanchette, 72, residing at the Pointe Larue home for the elderly, met Guillianne Amelie, 68, during his visits to friends at the Au Cap home.

The couple marked their special day surrounded by their family, friends, as well as staff and fellow residents from Pointe Larue and Au Cap homes.

They exchanged rings and vows at the Mayor's office, followed by a church blessing at the St Jean Bosco church, Pointe Larue, officiated by Father Lonnie Adrienne.

Benoit has five children and Guillianne four, from previous relationships. The couple lived in their respective homes for seven years before locking eyes a year ago.

“Benoit seemed so nice right from the moment I met him, I enjoy his companionship. We decided to get married to acquire the Sacrament of marriage as we regularly attend mass together. Also, we have to abide by the regulations of the home so now we can live together,” newly Mrs Fanchette said.

Reflecting on the pair’s budding romance, the acting administrator of the Pointe Larue home, Maryline Adela, said that it is the first wedding they have hosted and they are delighted that the two residents found love.

“The two are inseparable and they are very happy. I hope they keep attending Sunday service and they are blessed with many more years together,” Ms Adela said.

The wedding ended with a reception at the Pointe Larue home where the newlyweds will reside.

Congratulations to Mr & Mrs Fanchette!
