Health care workers display hidden talents through art exhibition

The Ministry of Health launched an art exhibition at the Carrefour des Arts yesterday to show the hidden talents of health care workers in sports, culture and art as part of the ministry’s plan to celebrate health.

Present for the ceremony was the Minister for Health, Peggy Vidot; chief executive of Health Care Agency, Dr Danny Louange; principal secretary for Health, Dr Bernard Valentin; representatives from the World Health Organisation; Speaker of the National Assembly, Roger Mancienne and healthcare workers.

The aim of the exhibition is to showcase the other aspects of healthcare workers, their source of inspiration as well as taking a break from Covid-19 related issues.

Petrina Valentin, logistics and store worker at the Ministry of Health, started the ceremony by reading an extract that touched her from the book ‘Moulouk Darmalinganm’ written by Dr Bernard Valentin that was published earlier this year. This was followed by a performance on the saxophone by Dr Louange who was playing for the first time in front of an audience.

Dr Conrad Shamlaye, the principal organiser of the exhibition, stated that through the images and artisanal works displayed in the exhibition the public can discover the other side of the healthcare workers.

“Our passion for art is equal to our passion towards our population and our patients,” he said.

The Minister for Health, Peggy Vidot, noted that the many photographs collected over the years, display the history, the career, the success and challenges the workers faced.

She added that “in reality it represents the life we dedicated to the health service for the people”.

She highlighted that the exhibit also displays moments of joy in the career as well as moments of sadness whereby they needed to rely on each other.

She added that working in the industry is sometimes very difficult but hopes that the people can appreciate the diversity and work of the health workers.

Minister Vidot officially opened the exhibition after which guests had the chance to appreciate the various pieces of art work on display.

The exhibition features works conducted by the healthcare workers to show another ‘dimension’ of their personalities, the use of their creative talents to decompress as well as to inspire themselves.

Our selection of photos show some highlights of the opening ceremony.
