Rene-Cosgrow grabs championship lead in Masters, Quatre takes maiden victory in Intermediates
Round five of the 2022 karting championship was hot, wild and exciting last Sunday where Liza Rene-Cosgrow’s win took her back to the top of the Masters standings, while Carlos Quatre took his maiden Intermediate class victory.
In the Masters class, Liza won the 10-lap final after starting from pole position and surviving a first corner clash with Marc Delcy. From then on, she focused on opening up a cushion as Dave Rene was up her bumper for the remainder of the race, and towards the final few laps she eased off seeing that Dave was not a threat anymore. Dave settled for second place with Marc taking third position. Rennick Bonnelamme motored to fourth place while the luckless Steven Rosalie ran into electrical problems yet again after having qualified fourth. His race ended in the pre-final after two laps.
In winning the round, Liza set the fastest lap of 32.941 seconds which is the fastest so far this season and gains the bonus point toward the championship which now moves her past previous leader Dave on 84 points. Dave is second on 80, Marc has 68, Rennick 46 and Steven 12.
In the Intermediates, Carlos Quatre claimed his first ever victory leading the finals from start to finish, though he was challenged by both Fabio Williams and Eric Maillet right through the final lap, but kept his nose in front even if Fabio tried to pass in the corners. They finished that way with Fabio taking second spot to secure his table topping position, with Eric was third.
Mitra Labrosse, who was in the leading pack too, took fourth place followed by Denilson Melanie in fifth, previous round winner Dean Maillet sixth, Terence Anderson seventh and Jean-David Melanie eighth.
One-time championship leader Christian Bastienne was unable to take part in this round but will be back next time to try to claw his way back up the table.
Eric Maillet claimed the class’ fastest lap of the day of 44.159 seconds to claim his bonus point.
As it stands Fabio leads the table with 86 points, followed by Dean on 84, Mitra on 60, Eric on 59, Christian and Carlos both on 57 points, Jean-David on 49, Denilson on 48 and Terence Anderson on 28.
In the meantime, 7 SKA members took part in a management of casualties in accidents and recovery and first aid course held over a full day by Care Aid Solutions. The participants are now better prepared to deal in any accidents that may occur when taking part in any of the association’s events.
The participants were Rennick Bonnelamme, Steven Rosalie, Carlos Quatre, Christian Bastienne, Mitra Labrosse, Roland Delcy and Liza Rene-Cosgrow.
