Women’s cricket takes centre stage

The first women’s match this season kicked off with a friendly between Lions Club and Narayan XI on Saturday at the cricket ground, Persévérance.

On the bowling front, Narayan XI took three wickets and they were taken by Geeta, Vanita and Malshi. When Narayan XI took to the field to chase they had their task cut out as they had to score almost 6 runs per over to win the match which they managed to achieve thanks to solid opening batting by Geeta who scored 20 runs at a brisk pace and this included three boundaries.

The pick of the bowlers for Lions Club was Mangri who took two wickets and bowled three overs.

A competitive game of cricket ended with Narayan XI coming out as winners.

Meanwhile, the kids’ cricket engagement continued with a match between Girls of ISS and Under-13 Boys of ISS. The girl’s team won the toss and decided to bat first and all of their batters spent a decent time at the crease led by Kara Delport who faced 21 balls followed by Ariane Larose and Annie Yang who faced 11 balls and Alisha Sharma (captain) and Shalini Raja who faced 10 balls each, helping their team to a score of 66 runs in their 15 overs and losing only 3 wickets.

The pick of the bowlers for the boys’ U13 team were Raj Vekaria and Ranjit who took one wicket each. In response the boys only managed to score 56 runs, losing the match thanks to some attacking bowling from Kallum who took two wickets in the 3 overs he bowled.

For the boys, their best batter was Dean Rouillon who scored the first boundary of the match and spent a decent time at the crease. There was an exciting finish to the match with the batter from the boys’ team, Shantanu, scoring a boundary off the last ball but it was not enough to win them the game.
