Covid-19 update |21 May 2022

522 active cases

The number of active cases of Covid-19 in the country stood at 522 on Thursday May 19, 2022 and the seven-day moving average is presently 47.

Baie Ste Anne on Praslin still has the highest number of reported current active cases ‒ 50 ‒ followed by Grand Anse Praslin with (42) cases. On La Digue, the number of active cases is down to 17.

The cumulative number of Covid-19 cases stands at 43,729 among which 40,040 have recovered, 522 remain active and 167 have died.

Mahe has a total of 412 actives cases, Praslin ‒ 92, La Digue ‒ 17, and the other islands, specifically Round Island ‒ 1.

The districts on Mahe with most active cases are Perseverance and Baie Lazare with (30) cases each.

Presently there are 11 patients admitted at the Covid-19 treatment facilities on Mahe.

Of concern is an increasing trend of reinfection, especially among people who are unvaccinated and those who have not taken a third dose.

The Ministry of Health is once again calling on everyone who is due for the Covid-19 vaccination primary or booster dose to visit a vaccination centre. Vaccination remains a valuable tool in the combat of Covid-19.

Meanwhile, 81% of the total population of 99,258 eligible for vaccination against Covid-19 have completed the first two doses as at May 19, 2022.

In total, 84,828 people have taken a first dose, 80,624 have taken two doses, 38,150 have had a third booster dose and 1,671 have taken a fourth dose.
