The new Ambassador for Slovakia, Katarina Leligdonova presented her credentials to President Wavel Ramkalawan in a short ceremony at the State House yesterday morning.

The Slovak Republic is represented in Seychelles by its honorary consul, Guillaume Albert, while Ambassador Leligdonova is based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Speaking to the press after the meeting with President Ramkalawan, Ambassador Leligdonova shared that “Slovakia and Seychelles have a lot in common even though we (Slovakia) are a landlocked country. We are looking forward to enhance our bilateral cooperation in the health sector, education and mitigation of climate crisis. We would like to work together to address common solutions. Of course, we have expressed our appreciation on the position of Seychelles on the current Ukraine/Russia war. Slovakia borders Ukraine and feels the consequences of the war and we share the same position which is a ceasefire and an end to the conflict.”

Ambassador Leligdonova and President Ramkalawan also discussed about education and Seychellois students studying medecine in Slovakia. “We would like to provide a few more scholarships to Seychelles to enhance this cooperation,” added Ambassador Leligdonova.

Ambassador Leligdonova also said that Seychelles and Slovakia have had very good relations since 1993 when the country was still part of Czechoslovakia but the relationships need to be strengthened.
