Through its strategic plan 2022-2030 launched yesterday afternoon, the University of Seychelles is “embarking on a journey”, emeritus professor Dennis Hardy has said.

Education Minister, Dr Justin Valentin, University of Seychelles (UniSey) vice-chancellor Joëlle Perreau and staff of UniSey, attended the launch yesterday at the Anse Royale campus.

In his address, emeritus professor Hardy explained that the plan is for “looking ahead”.

“The vision is as the national university (UniSey) will aspire to be at the heart of the socio-economic transformation of Seychelles and the Sids community. The mission is to foster a vibrant community where staff and students excel in teaching, learning and research in an atmosphere of discovery, creativity and innovation,” said professor Hardy.

He also revealed that the changes in education during the Covid-19 pandemic has been huge, alternating between blended learning, online to offline technique in learning has greatly accelerated.

“We have to be agile and flexible to withstand the changes,” he continued, adding that in the next few years we will see much better technologies with much better use to the class.

He also added that we will see the university in a much better learning environment as the current infrastructure was built for a different type of learning back in the days.

UniSey vice-chancellor Joëlle Perreau has described the plan as a guide to achieve their goals. She elaborated that the new strategic plan will give the university direction while they discharge their role as the sole university in the country.

Ms Perreau says the new strategic plan looks to 2030 and covers their main core mandate which is to provide high quality teaching, learning and research and to participate and contribute to international research.

She added that they aim to take UniSeyfurther and confidently as the national university.

The vice-chancellor also noted that the plan also provides clear objectives of their engagement to upgrade the university and campus facilities.
