With the removal of some restrictions imposed by the health authorities in the fight against the spread of Covid-19, thus allowing sport activities to resume, the National Sports Council is urging members of the public to take the opportunity to get back to practising sports and stay fit.

The call was made by Alain Alcindor, director for competitive sports within the National Sports Council (NSC) during the launch of ‘Annou Bouze’ (Let’s Move), a programme and message used to launch sports activities in the country. The launch was held at Stad Linite on Friday afternoon in the presence of NSC workers who took part in aerobics fitness exercise.

Mr Alcindor said many people are happy that some of the restrictions have been lifted allowing for training, competitive and non-competitive sports to restart.
He said the restrictions had affected the running of sports in the country, especially for some sports federations whose athletes were not able to even train.

He noted though that people have to understand that the restrictions were necessary given the amplitude and spread of the virus, but nonetheless they should be happy that they now can practice their sports with the restrictions lifted.

He added that as the sporting body, NSC, through its employees, wanted to kickstart sports in the country, especially team sports, an example which he wants others to follow.

Mr Alcindor said with the removal of restrictions on sporting activities, there is no excuse for people not to be active as statistics have shown that people who are more active have been able to fight the virus.

Francis Remie, director of community, leisure and sports for all within the NSC, said the unit has various sports activities planned in the community and workplaces to engage the population in.

He added that the unit has already started running some of activities such as baby gym and youth sports programmes.

Mr Remie noted that the unit has already held talks with various districts and he has launched an appeal for volunteers to sit on the districts’ sports committees.
