Karting - Racing season to open in March |05 February 2022

The Seychelles Karting Association plans to open its racing season in March and has planned a bumper 12-round championship for all their categories, this is in the presumption that the Covid restrictions for individual non-contact sports, such as Karting are eased.

Nevertheless the association has produced two calendars for whatever scenario arises in a bid to make sure the sport runs throughout the year without any interruptions.

This was made known during the Seychelles Karting Association’s annual general meeting held last weekend virtually with all its member.

After the usual procedures of presenting the audited accounts and other reports, the committee who is in its second year of a two-year mandate outlined the karting’s way forward for this year and beyond.

The month of February has been reserved for kart maintenance, circuit and facilities preparations, and it is hoped that the rainy season will ease off by March so that the first rounds of the 2022 championship can get under way.

This year the association is planning to take on a group of youngsters who wish to seriously take up the sport, something which due to Covid it was unable to do for over two seasons and which has now produced a void between the Cadet, Junior and Intermediate classes following promotions. The association has had numerous applications over these past two years when they were restricted from taking in any newcomers and has decided to give aspiring drivers on its waiting list first option for this year. At present the organising committee is awaiting approval from the National Sports Council (NSC) with regards to whether its existing standard operating procedures (SOP) used from last season will be acceptable.

On the competition side, this season sees the return of the super quick Masters SF1 class karts after being omitted last year due to lack of numbers and also the possible return of the Ladies SFW class by mid-season. A new Junior class has taken shape with the promotions of the Cadet drivers and the usual Intermediate which is up to full capacity will provide competitive racing this season.
