Seychelles delegation visits state-of-the-art sports complex in Mauritius |13 December 2021
Minister for Youth, Sports and Family Marie-Celine Zialor on Friday visited several sporting facilities that will be used during the 12th Indian Ocean Youth and Sports Commission Games ‒ Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien (CJSOI) next year.
The Games were expected to be held this year but were postponed to December 2022 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The minister accompanied by her delegation and officials from the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Recreation started the day by visiting the new Côte d’Or sports complex which features Olympic-size swimming pool, an indoor multipurpose court, a stadium for football as well as another facility for track and field events.
The facility opened in 2019, also features state-of-the-art and modern services for high level sports including a fitness gym, medical room, among others.
During the course of the day, the delegation visited other facilities including the tennis courts at Petit Camp Phoenix, a multipurpose facility for boxing, weightlifting and volleyball at Vacoas as well as a dojo and table tennis courts at Beau Bassin.
At the end of the day, Minister Zialor said she was satisfied with the visit and what she had seen, adding that in terms of facilities and infrastructure all is ready for a successful Indian Ocean Youth and Sports Commission games next year.
Minister Zialor said she is particularly impressed with the Côte d’Or Sports Complex which she described as modern, state-of-the-art and equipped with the latest technology. Such facility, added Minister Zialor, is a plus for the Indian Ocean region.
Minister Zialor has also taken the opportunity to have discussions on possible collaborations in terms of training camps as well as on infrastructure management and maintenance of sports complexes.
