The two newly accredited diplomats – Bangladeshi high commissioner Rezina Ahmed and Filipino ambassador Alex Chua – on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on the secretary of state of Foreign Affairs and of the Blue Economy, Ambassador Barry Faure, and the principal secretary of Foreign Affairs, Dr Marina Confait, at the Maison Quéau de Quinssy.
This was a few hours after presenting their credentials to President Danny Faure at State House.
During the meeting with HC Ahmed, both parties expressed the desire for increased cooperation especially in the fields of labour, ship building, trade, investment, among others.
“I will pursue all pending matters during my tenure regardless of the long distance between our countries,” stressed HC Ahmed.
Seychelles and Bangladesh have shared diplomatic relations for over 30 years.
During the meeting with Ambassador Chua, Ambassador Faure took the opportunity to reiterate Seychelles’ appreciation of the Filipino expatriate workforce and their contributions in Seychelles.
“We know that during your tenure, the relations between Seychelles and the Philippines will continue to improve,” conveyed Ambassador Faure.
Ambassador Chua also expressed his satisfaction with the active partnership that exists between the two countries.
“I wish to convey our appreciation for the kind hospitality that is extended to the Filipino workers in Seychelles,” said the ambassador.
Seychelles and the Philippines first established diplomatic relations in October 1987.
