Windsurfing and kitesurfing: Mahé-Praslin crossing |04 October 2021

Organisers cancel race after four postponements due to light wind condition

After another two days of light wind, the organisers have decided to cancel the annual windsurfing and kitesurfing Mahé-Praslin crossing.

Initially scheduled for Saturday September 18, the crossing was pushed to Saturday September 25 when it was again postponed to Wednesday September 29. But at the request of the competitors, the organisers shifted the race to Saturday October 2. With no improvement in the wind condition, the race was again postponed to yesterday, October 3, but once again the organisers had to call it a day.

According to the organisers, the ideal condition for the race is when the wind is blowing between 13 and 15 knots.

Seychelles Yachting Association (SYA) chairman Alain Alcindor has told Sports NATION that they will try to have the race in August next year.

A total of 28 competitors ‒ 15 windsurfers and 13 kitesurfers ‒ had registered for the crossing. Among them was Bertrand De Charmoy Lablache who had decided to dedicate the crossing to help the Impact Sports Education Entertainment (ISEE) raise funds.

Funds collected was to be used to buy special bed(s) for terminally ill patients spending their last days at home, and water sports equipment.
