SCAA’s Air Navigation Service Provider moving forward with its plan to modernise its Air Traffic Management System |02 October 2021

The Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority’s (SCAA) Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP) is replacing its current Air Traffic Management (ATM) system with a modern automated and fully-fledged one to improve air space efficiency and safety by facilitating the workload of air traffic controllers.

The system, which is costing SCAA US $3.6 million (about R48 million), was awarded to Adacel Technologies Limited, an industry leader in advanced air traffic management and air traffic control simulation and training systems. Payments are to be settled over a period of 36 months.

SCAA’s existing ATM system which was commissioned in 2009 is to be replaced by a modern Adacel’s Aurora System and the project is expected to be completed in 2023.

This project is to be undertaken in two phases: phase one will involve replacing the existing ATM system and simulator with a continuation with procedural control and phase 2 will involve the implementation of surveillance control.

SCAA’s chief executive, Garry Albert, said: “In line with our plan to modernise our

infrastructure, we are excited to see its air traffic management system advancing to the next level despite the delay incurred from the pandemic. Our team is looking forward to embark on this crucial journey with a prestigious company such as Adacel. We are confident that Adacel will deliver on its promise for a safe, reliable and efficient products and services.”

Adacel’s CEO, Daniel Verret, said: “Our team looks forward to delivering on our

commitments to modernise SCAA’s ATM system and implementing higher airspace efficiency.”

He added that the Adacel’s Aurora ATM integrates oceanic, approach and tower control capabilities and allows for optimal, fuel efficiency.
